Online Safety

ONLINE SAFETY

Online-safety is paramount now more than ever with the Covid-19 pandemic pushing people to use the internet more for entertainment, services and education. It means the safe and responsible use of technology, both the internet and all electronic media forms (e.g. text messages, gaming devices, email etc.). Electronic security and safety, responsible and appropriate behaviours in virtual spaces are critical components of online safety.

At Siparia West Secondary, teachers encourage online safety by first moulding students into good digital citizens. Teachers are tasked with modelling, promoting, encouraging, guiding, and monitoring appropriate, respectful, safe and lawful online behaviours and practices among our digital participants. With digital citizenship, our students show respect to self, others, virtual spaces and computing equipment when online. Online students must make ethical decisions and engage in virtual classes' ethical behaviours and exemplify ethical practices in any virtual space.

We appeal to our colleagues, parents and students to know the signs of online abuse - cyberbullying, sexual exploitation, grooming and emotional abuse and take appropriate and legal action, if the need arises.
