Learning Resources

Open Education Resources (OERs)

Open Educational Resources (OERs) are teaching and learning products and practices developed by content creators and shared freely with teachers and learners alike. Learning materials include lessons, quizzes, games, animations, videos, photos, worksheets, tutorials, lectures, lesson plans and learning support-techniques. These online resources are licensed as open resources and are legally and freely available to users.

Benefits of OERs to students: The OERs provide education equity for all. Many students benefit from unlimited access to education material. That access is the same or can be adapted for any learner - minorities, differently-abled, or the socio-economically disadvantaged. Learning content available online is rapidly disseminated with little or no transactional cost that adds up to huge savings for students.

Benefits of OERs to teachers: Teachers benefit from academic freedom. The use of OERs allow teachers to adapt, revise, and modify content to demonstrate their expertise and personalise what is taught and redistributed. This freedom is a legally permitted safety net that is provided to everyone by the copyright owners. Therefore, teachers are protected and not too concerned about breaching copyright license rules.

The Absence of Textbooks DOES NOT Deter Learning
